Being under or over dressed is a fear of mine.  I still remember the time I showed up very very overdressed to a sorority interest meeting in college.  I was so embarrassed that I didn't want to get out of the car.  In my defense, the dress code did say semi-formal; however, no one chose to follow.  However, the event scarred me for life!  Now, I'm crazy about understanding the dress code prior to an event.

Formal, Black Tie or Optional?  Say Whaaaaaaaa?

Formal or Black Tie Optional:

Basics:  Tux is not required.  Good news:  If a tux is not your cup of tea, no worries.  No one should give you "the side-eye" for wearing a dark suit.

Men:  Tux or dark suit

Ladies:  Long evening dress.  If the dress is cocktail length, it needs to be very dressy.

Black Tie:

Basics:  Mostly involve evening weddings.

Men:  This time a tux and bow tie are required.  This is not the time to substitute a dark suit.

Ladies:  Long jazzy evening dress.

About Our Look:

Shanon and I had so much fun shooting this look.  Shanon opted for the traditional with a modern flair in his look by putting a "now" spin on a tux with an on-trend slimmer pants and jacket cut.  I truly felt so sophisticated in this amazing dress.  No seriously, how gorgeous is it?  Seriously, goooooooorgeous!  And maroon shoes for the win!  They definitely add a little peek-a-boo color to the neutral elegant shiny tones.  Now for an added touch, try adding a skinny belt to give this frock a nod to Old Hollywood.
